Soul 62

The mission of this talented group of young musicians from Belmont Secondary on Victoria’s Westshore is to spread their high-energy R&B grooves across the city and afar. With a population of 16, Soul 62 kicks up a storm of funk when they crowd onto the bandstand. Led by teacher Glenn Whitney, they can be seen playing around town at a variety community and corporate events and fundraisers including New Years Eve at Panorama Rec Centre, the Alzheimer’s Walk for Memories and the Mother’s Day Paint-In at Royal Roads. From Aretha Franklin and Etta James to Chicago and the Powder Blues, Soul 62 blast fresh energy and life into soul and classic grooves.

The Swags

The Swags are a 5-piece alternative rock band hailing from Victoria, B.C and consisting of Cayman Burke [bass], Evan Hillier [drums], Pearse Wolfe Liblong [trumpet, keys], Liam McLaren [guitar, vocals] and Sandy Hughes [guitar, vocals]. Since forming a year ago, the band has been playing shows around the community including their high-school, Stelly’s Secondary, and other local venues. They will soon be recording an EP which will be released in the winter of 2011 for a charge of absolutely nothing; The Swags aim for original sound and encourage the sharing of their music for free. Pearse, being the newest member [joined June 2011], is bringing another dimension of sound to the band by bowing guitars, mastering the trumpet and hammering on the keys. Their high-energy sound influenced by Radiohead and We Are the City will leave your ears ringing and craving more.
