General Rules for Entries:  *Entry form must be received by 6 pm Wednesday September 15th

1.        Deadline for entry forms at regular fee is Monday September 14th at 6 pm

2.        Late entry forms will be accepted at Double Fee on Tuesday 15th and Wednesday 16th until 6 pm

3.        Entry forms must be received before 6 pm Wednesday; outside of office hours please leave your entry form in the box beside the door. Entry forms may also be mailed, see entry form for address.

4.        Bring your exhibits (articles entered) to the Luxton Hall on Thursday the 17th between 1 pm and 6 pm

5.        Judging starts at 7 pm sharp so please give yourself time to set up your exhibits.

6.        Exhibits and any prize money awarded must be picked up Sunday the 20th from 5 to 6 pm

Horticulture Rules:  

1.        Horticulture Section Only: If there is space available, up to five entries will be accepted on Thursday between 1 pm and 5 pm at regular entry fee.

2.         All produce must be grown by the exhibitor.

3.        Only one person per household may enter in the same class.

4.        An exhibitor may make more than one entry per class as long as they are different varieties and are named. OR Exhibitor’s allowed one (1) entry per class

5.        Clerks may move entries from one class to another as they deem fit or as judges direct. Entries, which are otherwise correct, may be marked NAS (not according to schedule).

6.        Judging Standards for Non-Specialized Shows” BC Council of Garden Clubs will be the rules used for the Horticulture Section.

7.        All entries must be shown in Fair containers except where noted in schedule as ‘exhibitor’s container’.

8.     ALL VARIETIES SHOULD BE NAMED IN THE VEGETABLE DEPARTMENT - ESPECIALLY AOV

Decorative Section

All entries in this Section are termed EXHIBITS which are planned expressions created with plant materials, and space, including containers, bases, accessories or other components.

Exhibits are:-

~    Plants material with or without accessories contained with a space as specified in a show schedule.

~    Plant material must predominate over all other components.

~    Fresh plant material must be in water or in water retaining material.

~    Painted and/or artificially coloured plant material MAY be  used unless otherwise stated in the regulations.

~    The use of artificial plant material is forbidden unless stated in the regulations.

Maximum size for each exhibit in Decorative Section

~    Maximum table space for each exhibit is 30 inches.

~    Traditional: Styles of designs that originated in the post-war era and are still in use. They are based on geometric forms.

~    Modern Line: Styles of design that show a dominance of line plant material with space within the design considered part of it.

~    Designer’s Choice: Exhibitors may use the style they prefer.

Class:

058  “Sea Song” exhibit featuring a marine theme, using fall flowers, accessories permitted.  Designer’s choice.
059  “Harvest Home” an exhibit, to feature flowers, fruits, vegetables and foliage in basket with handle.
060  "Cooks’ Choice” a wreath 10 inches or less in diameter of dried culinary herbs –t including a wire to hang it with.
061  “Going Green” an exhibit using a recycled container, fresh plant material, traditional style. Imagination counts! Designer’s choice.
062  “Indian Summer:, miniature exhibit not more than 5 inches in any dimension, autumn colours. Traditional.
063  “Tisane”, petite exhibit 5-9 inches, an exhibit in a cup and saucer using edible flowers and plant material.

Note:

~                    Specimens in a class requiring more than one should be as uniform as possible in colour, shape and size.

~          Tomatoes should have half inch stems.

~          Potatoes should be cleaned not washed.

~          Lettuce should have roots in water using

~          exhibitor’s low bowl or plastic bag, outside

~          leaves removed  & heads washed.

~          Carrots should have tops removed to one inch from crown.

~          Beets should have tops removed to one half inch above crown.

~          Onions should have roots trimmed to half inch and loose skin removed, tops folded down and tied.
